Episode 7:
That same evening, I had stepped out to buy something only to realize I didn’t have enough money on me. I returned home quietly to grab some money and that was when I walked in on them arguing "Aunty and her husband".
They didn’t even notice I was there. You already know I’m not allowed near my own child. But that night I overheard some strange things.
Aunty’s husband was so angry, confronting her about why she wouldn’t let me hold my baby. He said, “Two people are suffering here, the mother and the child.” Aunty was just busy shouting back, insisting he had no right to speak to her like that even though he was the father.
In their heat of their argument, I stood frozen, unseen. My heart pounded. I had remembered naming her Pamilerin “Laughter” but Aunty refused and insisted they call her “Miracle”.
Her husband mentioned the least she could do was to treat me with some kindness. Then she said something that sent chills down my spine 'she told him I did not look like someone who could raise a child', but would be a perfect surrogate mom for them. And also remind him of how someone had once try to carry a baby for them... but it failed.
Immediately I heard that, I grabbed what I needed and left. When I came back later that evening, he approached me quietly and asked, “Would you consider being a surrogate mother?” I stared blankly saying 'I didn’t even know what it meant'. He then explained and I told him no.
The next morning, I left for my hostel without saying a word, I was in the hostel for about a week.
Until Aunty called suspicious and asked. “Why haven’t you been coming home?” I told her I just didn’t feel like it. It was unlike me and she knew it.
Two weeks later, her husband came to my school, saying he understood me completely. He begged me not to tell anyone not even Aunty about what we discussed.
He promised to always be there for me and I believed him. He kept visiting, told me Aunty mustn't know about it. He’d message me at every chance he got, bought me expensive gifts.
Then one day, he asked, “What if we date… just secretly?” I refused.
But he didn’t stop. His presence was persistent, his words were intoxicating. He told me he had fallen in love with me. I thought i have found love and couldn’t stop thinking about what happened the night I had been drugged, the thought of him touching me haunted me, overwhelmed me.
Eventually I gave in, he then came to my hostel and said he wanted a child with me and once we had the baby. We will elope to the UK with my first child. But first, he wanted me to go home and tell Aunty I had agreed to be a surrogate mother. And that aunty would be left to decide whether it would happen through insemination or sex.
So, I went home l, told her I agreed, as we planned. Did I mentioned that Aunty isn’t even my blood relative.
At this point, I was spiraling, losing my grip on reality. And the only person I felt I could trust… was him. At least, for now.
To be continued…
When I was under ten, two brothers; our family friends kept sexually abusing me. I tried to tell someone, but instead of being protected, I was blamed for “playing with boys.” I was just a small, innocent girl that they took advantage of. One was older, the other was younger, but both cruel. They would hold me down, cover my mouth, and take turns with me. I felt helpless, dirty, and ashamed. Things only changed when my family relocated. I thought I was finally safe but little did I know that I was wrong. Another so-called family friend, a man over twenty years older than me, began calling me to “help his wife.” What I didn’t know was that his wife was never home. And just like that, one day he locked the door, dragged me, and violated me. I begged him to stop, told him I was a virgin, but he only laughed and tore my clothes. Afterward, he threatened to kill me if I ever tell my parents about it. I ran home, broken, and cried until I could cry no more. I cursed him with every bre...
